Place Names of Prince William Sound

I currently spend my summers in Prince William Sound, and, as with most places I find myself, I was curious about the place names of the Sound, and in particular what they could teach us about the historical land use of the area.

The majority of the place names are in the Sugt’stun language. This map is currently a work in progress, built off of the archives of the Alaska Native Language Center, and in particular, the work of Jeff Leer.

Place Names of the Matanuska-Susitna Valley

When not in the Sound, I live in the Mat-Su Valley of Alaska. This map was compiled from Shem Pete’s Alaska. I hope to continue building it out with stories and photographs as I find them.
